If building a battery using an apple will help get the concept of oxidation-reduction across to chemistry students at Les Etchemins High School in Ste. Foy, Quebec, then a trip to the grocery story for the teacher, Chau Ly-Hai, is in order. Mr. Ly-Hai uses many visual demonstrations to explain complex chemical points to his students, whom he sees as a generation of visual learners.
