Teaching approach:

  • Bring enthusiasm and an ability to adapt to your teaching.
  • Provide the necessary foundation for students to understand the world around them. Inspire them to go out and improve their society and environment.
  • Use technology efficiently: any computer activity has to fit specific course outcomes and require a reasonable amount of time.

Outstanding achievements:

Designs projects that challenge students to use a wide variety of resources, including technology.

  • For a unit on changing trends in human migration, students compared immigration data in the textbook with the latest information online.
  • In 2000, students helped create an online atlas for the Commonwealth, researching three countries, corresponding by email with students there and creating web pages about their findings.

Strives to create community and business education partnerships.

  • One such partnership connected students with the local forestry industry to contribute to discussions about long-term forest use and participate in panels and surveys examining the competing interests in forestry.
  • Team of students from school awarded a week-long Clarica Scholarship in History and Technology at the University of Waterloo. The team is designing history-related software.

Participates in the development of geography curriculum at the school board and provincial level:

  • lead a team writing curricula for a unit on sovereignty for the Canadian History 11 course
  • lead in-service training for new curricula and use of Arcview mapping software and other technology in the classroom
  • worked to develop new Canadian geography and Geomatics 12 curriculum.
