Outstanding achievements:

Engages students in relevant, interesting, accessible lessons and activities, adapted to a broad range of abilities. Integrates hands-on strategies into teaching program, and teaches same expectations in many way to allow students to absorb and integrate new concepts.

  • A Day at the Beach touches on all curriculum areas, for example, math to measure volumes of sand and the perimeter of the pool, and language to write descriptions and proper sentences.
  • In math lesson about angles, students measure angles around the school, make papier mache angles, and draw super-sized angles in chalk in the school yard.
  • In school breakfast program, grade 8 students prepare and serve other students, developing a sense of community responsibility, increased self-esteem and self-worth.
  • field trips, cooking lessons and skits teach the life skills, cooperation and knowledge students will need in the future, while teaching math skills and other academic material for the present.
  • Use of various computer applications allows students to develop skills and meet curriculum expectations at their own pace, while keeping their interest high.

At the beginning of the school year, many students had social and behaviour problems as well as learning problems. Within six weeks, their attitude and behaviour improved immensely.
