Teaching approach:

  • My primary goal is to teach my students to ask questions and to know how to access the resources that hold the answers to their questions.
  • Say what you mean, mean what you say and do what you say you are going to do.

Outstanding achievements:

Redesigned the Leadership program at the school to promote the growth of student leadership, and create situations in which students can learn from other students and develop programs that benefit both school and community. The program:

  • gives students a forum for their voices and ideas
  • teaches students to become leaders in the school and community to make a difference
  • gives them the skills and resources to make their plans come to life
  • brings students from different grades together in the same class to foster mentoring relationships, improve social atmosphere of school
  • helps develop alliances with community organizations and businesses, teaches young people to interact and work with members of the community
  • gives opportunities for service learning by volunteer experiences at neighbouring elementary schools
  • includes activities such as Welcome Week, Environmental Enhancement, Nutrition Week, the 30 Hour Famine and many others.

Course has grown from one class of 25 students to five classes with a total of 125 students. Students have received recognition and awards for their contributions from a wide variety of sources, including the Millennium Excellence Award and the YWCA Calgary Women of Distinction Award.

Rave reviews:

Mrs. Vonde is a woman who believes in her students; she is a woman with a vision who wants to see the world become a better place. She is a teacher who allows her heart and love for life toshine through in her everyday work. Students

I cannot think of a program that has had a greater positive impact on students, both at Lord Beaverbrook and at our feeder elementary and junior highs. The strength, foundation and vision for the program rests with Dee Anne Vonde. Principal
