Teaching Approach:

Teaches all students in her classes with respect and equity.

When Plan A doesn't work, use Plan B!

Outstanding Achievements:

Students recognize that mathematics and learning can be fun, as they apply mathematics to real life situations. For example the "derivative dance" helps teach product rule and quotient rule in differentiation.

Ms. Card encourages students to participate in extracurricular activities, including the Steps to University program, where they can achieve a credit from the University of Toronto and an in-school credit in English. She also raised more than $150,000 in scholarships and bursaries over two years for students who wouldn't otherwise be able to attend university or college.

Ms. Card is instrumental in the development and implementation of the Seniors in Cyberspace volunteer program in partnership with the Toronto Inter-generational Partnership. Student volunteers act as mentors, teaching seniors how to use computer technology and the internet. The project was featured on TVOntario and in the 2002 Team Report Newsletter.

In Praise Of:

"My dad believes that Ms. Card is, as he puts it, 'an angel.' He knows that his daughters were able to succeed because she was able to inspire them to succeed." - Former student

"We all had one teacher that made an impact on our lives… we believe that Ms. Card has been that special teacher to many students during her 34 years of teaching." - Manager of Programs and Volunteers, Toronto Inter-generational Partnerships.
