- Use a variety of instructional modes: Socratic lessons, exciting demonstrations, Internet clips, computer simulations, guided wet labs, student-designed wet labs, computer-based lab activities, independent study and interactive software. Modify modes based on student needs.
- Remember, we don't teach Science -we teach young people. Science is a subject in school.
- Has had a significant positive impact on disadvantaged or troubled students. These include, among others, students struggling with Asperger's syndrome, dyslexia, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and addiction, as well as students who have faced personal tragedy or who are over-extended because of jobs or other commitments.
- Over his career, a large number of his students have gone on to excel in college and university and to have successful careers. Every year, some of these students return to stand with him at commencement.
